Dallas police officer charged with sexual assault of child

DALLAS — Police on Monday announced the arrest of a Dallas police officer accused of sexually assaulting a child.

Authorities arrested Officer Tyrone Williams Jr. on one count of sexual assault of a child on Monday, according to police. Investigators said the incident happened in Dallas but did not immediately provide more information on the case.

Williams joined the Dallas Police Department in March 2009. Police said he was assigned to the city’s South Central Patrol Division. Williams has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an internal affairs investigation, officials said.

Authorities continue to investigate.
