Coronavirus: 6 people shot during California party

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Six people were shot at a California party early Saturday, a gathering that was held despite the state’s stay-at-home order issued because of the coronavirus pandemic, authorities said.

According to a news release from the Kern County Sheriff’s Office, police responded to a call of multiple shots fired at an apartment complex in Bakersfield.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, nearly 400 people were at the party when shots rang out, KGET reported. Officials said nearly 100 empty shell casings, of multiple calibers, were recovered by police, the television station reported.

Four men, one woman and a juvenile girl were injured, the Sheriff’s Office said. All were treated an a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Deputies said four men were involved in the shooting and left the area in a white sedan, the Sheriff;'s Office said. The investigation is ongoing.

According to the definition by the nonprofit Gun Violence Archive, Saturday’s incident has been described as a mass shooting, KGET reported.
