California mom, daughter charged with murder after botched butt lift kills woman in private home

ENCINO, Calif. — Two California women are facing murder charges after a Brazilian butt lift performed inside a private Encino home went awry, leading to the death of aspiring social media star Karissa Rajpaul.

The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed that Libby Adame, 51, and her 23-year-old daughter, Alicia Galaz, were arrested Aug. 5, after Rajpaul died at an area hospital from acute respiratory failure caused by silicone injections, KTLA reported.

Rajpaul, 26, was undergoing her third such procedure in September 2020, when she developed complications and died later the same day at an area hospital, the LAPD confirmed to the TV station on Monday.

“(Adame and Galaz) pass themselves off like they have skill or expertise to do surgeries on the human body, and that is not the case,” LAPD Deputy Chief of Police Alan Hamilton told KTLA.

Meanwhile, LAPD Detective Robert Dinlocker told KCAL that the mother-daughter duo also performed the unauthorized and illegal procedure on Rajpaul on Oct. 15, 2019, and Rajpaul posted photos of that procedure on a now-defunct social media account.

According to Hamilton, Adame and Galaz called 911 after Rajpaul developed complications following the September 2020 procedure, but they then fled the home, KTLA reported.

“They took people’s cash and we know in a couple of incidents, it resulted in murder,” Hamilton said.
