Bow hunter killed by elk he had wounded

TILLAMOOK, Ore. — An Oregon hunter was killed by an elk after it charged him and gored him.

Mark David, 66, of Hillsboro, Oregon, died Sunday after he was wounded by the 5-point bull elk on private property near the coastal city of Tillamook.

Mark David, of Hillsboro, was archery hunting on Saturday, Aug. 29, on private property in the area of Trask Road East in Tillamook. David wounded a bull elk but was unable to locate it before dark.

David wounded an elk Saturday while bow hunting and was unable to find the animal after tracked it until sunset. The next morning, David and a landowner searched for the wounded bull and again attempted to kill the animal with his bow when it charged David and gored him in the neck with its antlers.

The landowner tried to help David, but he succumbed to his injuries.

“The landowner attempted to help David but he sustained fatal injuries and died,” Oregon State Police told the Salem Statesman Journal.

The elk was killed and the meat was donated to the Tillamook County Jail following the investigation.
