Bed Bath & Beyond, J.C. Penney join growing list of retailers closing stores on Thanksgiving Day

Bed Bath & Beyond and J.C. Penney have joined a host of other major retailers announcing plans to keep their stores closed on Thanksgiving Day this year due to the ongoing novel coronavirus pandemic.

“Throughout the COVID-19 crisis, our dedicated associate teams have taken exceptional steps to keep each other safe, our customers served, and our communities supported with the essential items they need,” Bed Bath & Beyond President and CEO Mark Tritton said in a statement.

Meanwhile, USA Today added J.C. Penney to its ongoing list of retailers closing for the national day of thanks celebrated in late November.

None of the retailers listed have yet to detail their plans for Black Friday shoppers, WFMJ reported.

To date, major retailers declining to open their doors on Thanksgiving include Academy Sport + Outdoors, Best Buy, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Kohl’s, Office Depot/OfficeMax, Sam’s Club, Target and Walmart.
