Atlanta woman, nephew found dead in house fire; woman had stab founds, throat slashed

ATLANTA — A woman was found dead with stab wounds and her neck slashed, alongside her nephew in a house fire in Atlanta, Georgia.

Atlanta Police Department said in a news release that just after 8:30 a.m. on Dec. 3, officers responded to a house fire at 973 Bolton Road after Atlanta Fire and Rescue found two people deceased inside the house.

The Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office later ruled that the deaths a homicide, according to APD.

One of the victims was identified as the homeowner, Lola Bell Thomas, according to an incident report obtained by WSB-TV. Thomas reportedly lived at the house with her nephew, Bobby Grubbs, who was also found dead. Police say Grubbs died as a result of the house fire, but the cause and manner of his death is currently undetermined, pending the investigation.

The woman was found stabbed multiple times, and her throat was slashed, according to an incident report obtained by WSB-TV.

A “charred” and loaded 12-gauge pump shotgun was also found inside the house, police said, according to an incident report obtained by WSB-TV.

It is not clear if police are looking for a suspect or if they believe another person was involved, according to WSB-TV.

The investigation is ongoing. No further information has been released.
