7-year-old boy dies after Philadelphia shootout

PHILADELPHIA — A 7-year-old boy is dead following a weekend shootout in Philadelphia.

According to WTXF and KYW, Philadelphia police said Zamar Jones was playing on the porch of a North Simpson Street home Saturday when the shootout occurred about 7:40 p.m. The boy, who suffered a gunshot wound to the head, was rushed to a nearby hospital and died two days later, authorities said.

Police later arrested Christopher Linder, 27, on charges of attempted murder, aggravated assault and reckless endangerment, WTXF reported. Authorities plan to upgrade the attempted murder charge to murder now that the child has died, according to the news outlet.

Police said Linder was driving a Chevy Silverado down North Simpson Street when he began shooting at people outside a home. Two other men returned fire at the vehicle, which crashed into a GMC Yukon, WTXF reported. Linder then got into the Yukon and fled, police said, adding that they arrested him later when he came back for the Silverado.

Police said they are still looking for the two other men involved in the shootout, according to WTXF.
