COMPTON, Calif. — Two California deputies were critically injured Saturday night when they were shot in Compton, authorities said.

The shootings occurred in Compton at about 7 p.m. near the Blue Line station, the Los Angeles Times reported.

According to a tweet from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office, one male deputy and one female deputy were shot as they sat in their patrol vehicle. Both deputies sustained multiple gunshot wounds and are in critical condition.

The gunman remains at large.

Both deputies were undergoing surgery late Saturday, the sheriff’s office tweeted.

“They are both still fighting for their lives, so please keep them in your thoughts and prayers,” the sheriff’s office tweeted.
