TOOELE, Utah — Police responding to a wellness check not only found a 75-year-old Utah woman dead but made a shocking discovery when they searched the home last week.
Jeanne Souron-Mathers's body was found in her retirement community apartment after a maintenance worker called saying he was worried because he hadn't seen her for two weeks, CNN reported.
There were no signs of trauma on Souron-Mathers' body, but police discovered a mystery -- the body of the woman's husband, stuffed in the apartment's chest freezer.
The man was identified as Paul Edward Mathers and police said he had been in the deep freezer from 1 1/2 to 11 years, CNN reported.
But what was the reason for a decadelong time frame? Police said they confirmed Mathers had lived in the apartment since December 2007 and when they asked neighbors when they last saw the man in the home, they gave varying answers, KSTU reported.
