Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Tyler Skaggs died early Monday in Texas where the Angels were preparing for an upcoming series against the Texas Rangers, according to the baseball team. Skaggs was just 27 years old.

The Angels issued a statement Monday on Skaggs' death saying that the pitcher passed away in Texas, but with no further detail on exactly how he died.

“Tyler always has, and always will be, an important part of the Angels Family. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Carli and his entire family during this devastating time,” the team said.

Police found Skaggs unresponsive in his hotel room at the Hilton in Southlake, Texas, early Monday, KTVT-TV reported. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police do not suspect foul play, but said they are continuing to investigate.

Monday night’s game has been postponed in the wake of Skaggs’ death.

The Rangers also issued a statement on Skaggs’ death, according to KTVT.

“The Texas Rangers organization wants to express its deepest sympathies to the family of Tyler Skaggs and to the entire Angels organization on this shocking loss. The thoughts and prayers of every member of the Texas Rangers and all of their fans are with the Angels organization at this difficult time. Tonight’s game will be made up at a date to be determined,” the team said.

Skaggs posted a photo of the team, who were all wearing cowboy hats, after their arrival in Texas Sunday.

Skaggs pitched five innings Saturday night against the Oakland A’s. ESPN reported he went 7-7 this year in 15 starts with a 4.29 ERA and 78 strikeouts in just over 79 innings.

Skaggs was born on July 13, 1991 in Woodland Hills, California and still lived in Santa Monica with his wife, Carli.
