Iowa man accused of stealing 'Muppets' memorabilia

Kole Alexander Higgins was arrested and charged with stealing Muppets memorabilia worth thousands of dollars.

An Iowa man is accused of stealing thousands of dollars worth of "The Muppets" memorabilia and several birds, authorities said.

Kole Alexander Higgins, 25, of Ralston, was charged with burglary and theft charges for allegedly breaking into a Scranton camper and a vacant home in Churdan and stealing nine birds and the "Muppets" collectibles, the Carroll Times Herald reported. The items were taken in September and were reported when the collector noticed the items for sale on Facebook, Greene County Sheriff Jack Williams told KCCI.

"He called and said, 'Hey, that's my stuff,'" Williams told the television station.

Higgins is currently on probation for felony drug convictions in 2018, the Times Herald reported.

When deputies went to Higgins' home to recover the memorabilia, they found bird cages, according to KCCI.

"While we were there, on bodycam footage, we noticed a bunch of birds and cages we had the report of those being stolen in a burglary," Williams told the television station. "We went back the second time and got the cages. He had allowed the birds to die."

If convicted of the charges, Higgins could face up to 15 years in prison, the Times Herald reported.
