Teacher in controversial race class returns to school

SEATTLE — A teacher will be back in the classroom Monday at Seattle's Center School after a nearly two-year controversy over his class on race.

In 2013, a student said Jon Greenberg's class on social justice created an intimidating environment.

Others said Greenberg got students to open up about prejudice.

Greenberg was supposed to start a 10-day suspension this week.

On Jan. 12, a delegation of Center School students brought a petition to Seattle Schools Superintendent Larry Nyland, opposing the suspension.

The district issued a statement saying it used an independent arbitrator to help make the decision.
