Suspect Identified in Greenwood Murder-Robbery

Seattle, Wash. — Seattle police sources confirm to KIRO-7, they are searching for 17-year-old Byron White in connection with the murder of 54-year-old David Peterson.

Peterson called 911 from his cell phone reporting he was being robbed while on his daily walk Sunday evening. Police believe the robbers took Peterson’s cell phone and then shot him. Peterson was found on a sidewalk next to a busy retail strip mall.

Sources say White is a transient and has been known to stay in homes from Greenwood to Ballard.

On Friday night, Seattle SWAT officers surrounded a home on 4th Avenue Northwest, a few blocks from where the murder happened. SPD confirmed the search warrant was executed to find evidence in  the murder of David Peterson. Detectives will not say what they found, but they did remove bags of evidence from the home. Peterson’s cell phone was the only item taken from him when he was shot.

A man who lives at the address told KIRO-7 the murder suspect visited his 18-year-old nephew in the home days before.

As of midnight Friday, SPD public information officers would not officially release the name of the murder suspect. Sources tell KIRO-7 they’re confident White is the suspect they want to question.
