But the worry is that if these attacks continue, someone could be seriously hurt.

"We just crossed the intersection right in front of the Burger King, and that's when it happened," said Jeff Line, a 20-year Lacey resident. "Just driving home."

Line and his 14-year-old son, Declan, stood outside Lacey City Hall not far from where someone fired on their vehicle as they drove past.

"The first is a loud bang," said Declan.  "And we looked over and there was a little hole and the whole window was shattered."

"So, immediately, I look at him," said Jeff. " 'Are you OK?'  We kind of check each other. We pull over. At that point we realize what it was."

What it likely was, Lacey police said, was a pellet gun fired into at least four vehicles. The attacks occurred within two minutes at about 7 p.m. Friday.

"Whoever is doing this, sometimes they're just pranks or out having fun," said Lacey Sgt. Dave Campbell. "What they don't realize is how dangerous this is and how someone could really get hurt."

And they apparently didn't stop there. Overnight officers discovered several Intercity Transit bus shelters had shattered windows, too, likely targeted by the same shooter.

"So we're taking it very serious," said Sgt. Campbell. "And we want to do everything we can to find who did this. And so we're hoping someone knows something and will give us a call."

The driver's side window in Jeff Line's vehicle was shattered.

"To me, it felt like it was more another vehicle that we were passing," Line said.

Now he hopes someone will come forward so his faith in his fellow human beings won't be left in pieces, too.

"It's a safe area," said Line. "It's a one-off, I think. We're safe. The car can be fixed. But certainly we need to find out what happened."

This happened so quickly, no one got a look at the shooter. Anyone with information is asked to call Lacey police.
