THURSTON COUNTY, Wash. — West Thurston firefighters rescued a horse that had laid down and was unable to get back up Monday.
Sometime Sunday night, 34-year-old quarter horse, Coco, became pinned between his barn and water trough.
Calls for help summoned a neighbor with a tractor and several West Thurston firefighters trained in animal rescue.
“A quick move with the tractor to get Coco away from the barn, West Thurston volunteer Captain Tom Berryman and crew set up a rope system to roll him so he could easily get up on his own,” West Thurston fire said on its Facebook page.
Within a few minutes, the horse was again steady on his feet and having a breakfast of lawn grass.
West Thurston crews receive training on animal rescue from Captain Berryman.
