Spike in bear sightings in Bonney Lake

BONNEY LAKE, Wash. — Bonney Lake is seeing a spike in bear sightings, with the latest happening overnight.

Bonney Lake police tweeted that there had been bear sightings near 70th Street East just before midnight.

Last month, one family had three bears in their backyard near an elementary school. The family woke to noises of what they thought was an intruder and found a mother and two cubs tearing through garbage and climbing their fence.

Last week, there were two bear sightings in the area within 48 hours.

Experts say this is the time of year they receive the most reports of bear sightings.

Your best bet to keep bears away is make sure there is no access to food and to put your garbage can in your garage.
