LAKE TAPPS, Wash. - A man is recovering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after using a handgun to fire rounds from his truck Thursday morning in Lake Tapps, the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office said.

Officials said the man reportedly fell asleep after using methamphetamine.

Deputies said they responded to the 2800 block of 179th Avenue East after a 911 call came in about a man firing shots at a property in the area.

When deputies arrived, they found a 33-year-old man in the driveway of the property with a wound to his leg.

The man was reportedly headed to an acquaintance’s in the South Hill area Wednesday night, but had gotten lost and decided to park alongside the garage at the property, deputies said.

As a woman from the home was backing out of the driveway, she noticed the truck next to the garage and rolled down her window to confront the man, officials said.

The man reportedly awoke screaming and began firing rounds from a gun, sending multiple rounds through the truck windshield and window facing the woman, officials said. One of those rounds struck the man in his leg.

The man was taken to the hospital for treatment and will be booked into jail for first-degree assault after being released.

    The woman was not injured.

    The incident is under investigation.
