ABERDEEN, Wash. — A 23-year-old man has been booked into jail after hitting a pedestrian, fleeing the scene and later turning himself in, Aberdeen police said.

Police officers were called to 112 North Boone St. about 6:41 p.m. Thursday, and when they arrived, CPR was being performed on the 27-year-old woman who had been struck by a truck.

Police said witnesses told them the woman was in the crosswalk with her boyfriend when a white Chevrolet pickup ran a red light, hit the woman, threw her forward and then drove over her.

Some witnesses performed CPR on the woman and others followed the driver, but then lost him, police said.

Aberdeen Fire crews arrived a short time later and transported the woman to Grays Harbor Community Hospital. She was later taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

Officials did not give an update on her status.

Eventually, the driver turned himself in and admitted to running the light. He told officers he panicked and left the scene.

Police said there is an ongoing investigation.
