Human remains found in Chehalis River

CENTRALIA, Wash. — Centralia police are investigating after human remains were found in the Chehalis River over the weekend.

Investigators said officers responded after receiving a report of possible remains Sunday near Mellen Street.

According to police, officers found human remains partially submerged in mud and water in the area.

On Monday morning, detectives recovered the remains.

The cause of death is unknown and further examination will be needed.

The Lewis County Coroner’s Office will determine the identity of the remains and will release the name at a later time.
