Former employee sentenced in theft of $400K from hospital

OLYMPIA, Wash. — A former employee convicted of stealing nearly $400,000 from a hospital in western Washington state has been sentenced to a year in jail.

The Olympian reports 46-year-old Davina Gilroy of Aberdeen was sentenced after pleading guilty in Grays Harbor Superior Court earlier this month to first-degree theft.

Aberdeen police launched an investigation in July 2017 after the theft was reported at the Grays Harbor Community Hospital.

Police say they determined she had stolen the money by writing fraudulent checks and making direct deposits into her personal bank account.

Gilroy was ordered to pay restitution of an undisclosed amount to the hospital's insurance company. She will be allowed to enter the work release program so that she can repay the money.
