LACEY, Wash. - Two women went on a gift card shopping spree after breaking into cars and stealing a purse in Lacey, according to the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators said that on May 8 at 5 p.m., two cars were burglarized at the Regional Athletic Complex in Lacey.

A purse was stolen and credit cards inside it were then used at two Lacey Safeway stores, where police say about $11,000 worth of gift cards were bought by two women seen in surveillance photos.

Investigators are hoping to identify the suspects.

The Sheriff’s Office released photos of the women, as well as surveillance video (included in this story) of one of the suspects attempting to buy gift cards.

The video shows the clerk leaving the checkout counter during the transaction, perhaps after realizing that the woman was trying to pay with a stolen credit card, and when he returns with another employee, the woman suddenly flees.

Both women are wanted for investigation of theft, identity theft, vehicle prowl and malicious mischief.

Anyone who recognizes either woman or knows anything about the crimes is asked to call Thurston County Deputy Sanders through dispatch at 360-704-2740 and reference case #19-2390.
