Car catches fire after multiple collisions in Pierce County

Two cars collided, with one resting on its side, and caught fire in Pierce County on Sunday, according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office.

At about 3:25 p.m. on Aug. 14, deputies responded to a multi-vehicle collision at the intersection of Spanaway Loop Road South and 138th Street South between Parkland and Spanaway.

According to witnesses, a Ford Mustang was speeding southbound on Spanaway Loop Road South, where it ran a red light at 138th Street South and struck another car that was turning left onto northbound Spanaway Loop Road South.

The Mustang continued southbound, striking four more cars before coming to a rest on its side.

Deputies said witnesses pulled the occupants of the Mustang, including a dog, from the car just before it caught fire. The occupants were not wearing seat belts.

Some people were transported to the hospital with injuries ranging from minor to serious.
