1 arrested in assault at state Capitol campus

OLYMPIA, Wash. — A 40-year-old Chehalis man was arrested Saturday after a clash between two groups at the legislative building on the state Capitol campus, Washington State Patrol Sgt. Darren Wright said.

Wright said neither of the groups had a permit for an event when they arrived at the Capitol.

The man who was arrested allegedly assaulted a man who was identified as being affiliated with the Patriot Prayer group, Wright said.

Wright said the man suspected of assault was with a group who wore Antifa symbols on their clothing. The group refused to claim an affiliation.

The victim was treated by medics at the scene for facial abrasions, Wright said.

Officials said additional troopers were called to the scene but both groups left before other law enforcement officials arrived.

The suspect was arrested for investigation of fourth-degree assault.
