Divers found body of man who disappeared in Chehalis Lake

CENTRALIA, Wash. — Divers have recovered the body of a man who disappeared underwater Monday.

Rescuers were called to Plummer’s Lake in Centralia at about 11:55 a.m. after a witness reported seeing a man in the water, not far from his empty boat. The man had been in his boat fishing a few minutes earlier.

The witness told authorities he saw the man swimming, but lost sight of him when he went underwater.  The witness never saw the man resurface.

Police and rescuers from multiple jurisdictions, including the Chehalis Fire Department and Thurston County Sheriff’s dive team, responded and conducted a search, but by nightfall the victim had not been found.

For safety reasons the search operations were halted for the night and started again at 9 a.m. Tuesday.  The man's body was later found and recovered from the lake.
