Driver will not face charges in crash that killed 2-year-old

BELLEVUE, Wash. — A driver in a crash that killed a child on a Bellevue sidewalk will not face charges.

Bellevue police announced on Monday that they wrapped up an investigation into a crash that killed a two-year-old Indian girl on September 29.

The two-year-old girl was identified as Sraddha Panchakarla. She and her mother Bhavya were on a walk at the time of the collision, waiting to cross the street. Read the story from September here.

The crash at 140th Avenue NE and Bel-Red road involved a 1999 Dodge Durango and a 2011 Nissan Sentra.

The driver of a Nissan Sedan was turning left on 140th Avenue Northeast and crashed into an SUV. The crash pushed the car onto the sidewalk hitting the mother and the two-year-old girl.

Prosecutors determined no criminal charges in the death, but the driver will pay a $187 ticket for failing to yield.

"This really seems to be, at this point, a horrible, tragic accident," Bellevue Police Chief Steve Mylett said after the accident in Sepetmeber.

The family was new to the U.S, having moved to Bellevue from India just four months before the accident.
