Troopers asking for help in solving double hit-and-run on I-5 in Lynnwood

LYNNWOOD, Wash. — Troopers are asking for help to solve a very unusual hit-and-run crash on I-5 in Lynnwood.

After 5 a.m. Saturday, Francis Scott Key was stopped in a construction zone while driving southbound on I-5 near 44th Avenue West.

The driver of a pickup described as possibly a dark green Ford Ranger slammed into the back of Key's Honda Civic, totaling the car. Instead of stopping, the driver spun his wheels, pushing Key's car forward into the car in front of Key so the driver could create space to speed away. A good Samaritan chased the pickup but lost it before they could see license plates.

Key, who miraculously was not seriously hurt, can only afford liability insurance. He told KIRO-7: "I forgive the guy, but I can't afford to replace or fix this car. It's all I've got to get to work."
