All lanes of southbound I-5 in the Smokey Point area were closed after a multi-vehicle crash Wednesday morning.

Authorities say the crash south of SR 531 was caused by a semi-truck that didn’t slow down in a construction zone at about 4:45 a.m.  Two semi trucks, a pickup and a trailer were involved in the wreck, according to Marysville fire.

Firefighters extricated four people from the vehicles.  One was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, one victim was in stable condition and two had minor injuries.

About 100 gallons of diesel fuel spilled that had to cleaned up by road crews.

Two lanes opened shortly before 6 a.m.
