Firefighters rescue 2 of 3 people critically hurt in Everett house fire

EVERETT, Wash. — Two people were rescued from a burning home in Everett that left three people critically injured.

A passerby called 911 about a house fire in the 3400 block of Broadway at 4:15 a.m. on Wednesday.

Firefighters arrived and went into the home and rescued two people, including one person who was in a wheelchair. A third person was able to get out of the house on their own, Everett Fire Department spokesperson Rachel Doniger said.

Firefighters performed CPR on one of the victims at the scene, who was then taken to the hospital.

Two people were taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle and a third was taken to Providence Medical Center in Everett.

All three victims were in critical condition with burns and smoke inhalation.

It took firefighters about 70 minutes to completely put out the fire. More than 50 firefighters from Everett, Marysville, Snohomish Regional Fire and Rescue, Snohomish County Fire District 4, and South Fire and Rescue responded.

Both directions of Broadway were closed for several hours.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but the Everett Fire Department said preliminary information indicates a space heater near a mattress may have sparked the fire.
