Man arrested in attempted kidnapping of 16-year-old Arlington girl

ARLINGTON, Wash. — Police arrested a man who a 16-year-old girl said grabbed her and tried to force her into a public bathroom at an Arlington park Monday afternoon.

Police were called to Legion Park in the 100 block of North Olympic Avenue in the downtown area at 1:15 p.m.

The victim said when the man tried to force her into the bathroom, she struggled with him and was able to break free. The girl was not hurt.

She told police that as she struggled to get away, the man's grip tightened and she feared that she was going to be kidnapped.

The girl was able to give officers a clear description of the man and later identify him.  Arlington police officers spent the afternoon and early evening searching for the man, who had fled.

At about 8:15 p.m., Arlington police officers found the man, a 45-year-old from Arlington, who was booked into the Snohomish County Jail on one count of second-degree kidnapping with sexual motivation.
