Health Alert: Confirmed case of hepatitis A closes Lynnwood restaurant

LYNNWOOD, Wash. — A Lynnwood restaurant was closed after health officials confirmed a case of hepatitis A in an employee.

The Snohomish Health District said Ashiya Teriyaki at 1233 164th St. SW had to close immediately after a case was confirmed in a food worker.

People who ate at the restaurant between Aug. 2 and Aug. 15 may be at risk of developing hepatitis A and should contact their health care provider to get a vaccine or for treatment.

Health officials said the case doesn't appear to be linked to the previously reported outbreak in the state.

The Snohomish Health District listed early signs and symptoms of hepatitis A:

  • Fever
  • Fatigue
  • Loss of appetite
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Dark urine
  • Jaundice, or yellowing of eyes or skin

“Hepatitis A is a highly contagious liver infection caused by the hepatitis A virus. It can vary in severity, with mild cases lasting two weeks or less and more severe cases lasting four to six weeks or longer. Some individuals, especially children, may not develop jaundice and may have an illness so mild that it can go unnoticed. However, even mildly ill people can still be highly infectious,” said Heather Thomas, with the Snohomish Health District.

The restaurant was allowed to reopen but it was closed Friday evening.
