• 48 people evacuated from stalled tram in frosty weather

FRACONIA, N.H. - Dozens of people were stranded in an aerial tram after the Cannon Mountain tram became stuck Sunday afternoon.

Forty-one people were stranded in the gondola-like tram's bottom car and seven people on the top car when the service break on the tram became engaged. The temperature on the mountain Sunday afternoon was -3 degrees, with the wind chill making it feel like -19 degrees.

The tram became stuck at 2:10 p.m. By 3:30 p.m., all seven people were out of the top car. By 4:45 p.m., all 41 people in the bottom car were evacuated. Crews brought blankets during the rescue to help keep the people warm.

The crews were able to take the break off after every one was out and they are still investigating what caused the break to engage. The cold weather isn't suspected.

    No one was injured.
