• Marine looking for retired military dog missing from Tacoma

    TACOMA, Wash. -

A South Sound Marine is asking for help to find a retired Marine Corps dog that disappeared in Tacoma.

Ruby, a Labrador retriever, hasn't been seen since Memorial Day weekend.

Her handler, Lance Corporal Matthew Walters, says the lab escaped while he was off visiting family.

Friends say Walters and Ruby are so close, Ruby gets very anxious when Walters leaves home.

In the past, Ruby has tried to go find him.

Ruby served two tours in Afghanistan.

“A friendship and lasting bond was forged as Ruby and Corporal Walters learned together how to find improvised explosive devices, commonly referred to as IEDs. Together, these two Marines survived a deployment in the most violent regions of Afghanistan where one's life can end instantly in a cloud of smoke. Lives and limbs were lost and there were many occasions when Corporal Walters and his buddies didn't think they would ever make it back home,” Walters’ mother posted on her Facebook page.

Hundreds of KIRO 7 viewers have shared Ruby's picture on our Facebook page in hopes she can be reunited with her owner.

If you know where Ruby is, you can email Walters at mattwalters89@yahoo.com.  You can also help by sharing the post to get it to as many people as possible.
