KITSAP COUNTY, Wash. — Two Washington State Department of Transportation workers are recovering after being struck by a pickup truck on State Route 104 at Wheeler Street near Port Gamble on Thursday morning, officials said.
DOT officials said the pickup drifted onto the shoulder of the road, hit a parked DOT truck and then hit workers who were in a work zone after 10 a.m. The workers were clearing trees along the side of the highway.
Both workers were taken to Harrison Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Washington State Patrol officials said.
DOT officials said the two victims are expected to miss work while they recover.
The 56-year-old pickup driver is being investigated on suspicion of driving under the influence, troopers said.
DOT officials are asking drivers to "remember to never drive impaired and to always move over or slow down whenever you see crews working on the side of the roadways."
