Work on I-5 overpass in Everett postponed this weekend due to weather

EVERETT, Wash. — The Washington State Department of Transportation has postponed this weekend’s work on Interstate 5 in north Everett due to inclement weather.

Crews contracted by WSDOT have been working to replace a girder on the 12th Street bridge over I-5 between Everett and Marysville.

It was damaged in September 2021 after it was hit by an excavator being transported on the back of a truck.

The girder was set to be replaced during the early morning hours this weekend, but crews could not complete all the necessary prep work due to the snow and rain that has hit the region this week.

As a result, crews would not be ready to put the girder in place even if the weather does improve.

Only a few weeks of repair work remain, and construction on the bridge is expected to be completed by early 2023.

About 280 vehicles travel across the bridge daily, according to WSDOT.
