The deputy was hit by the car and at some point, fired at the woman.

A short chase began and ended a few miles down the road.

Deputies and medics gave aid to the suspect, but she died on the way to Mason General Hospital.

Officials say it appears the woman was killed by the deputy’s gunfire.

The sheriff’s office did not say if the deputy was hurt.

Thurston County will be taking the lead on the investigation, which will be turned over to the Region III Critical Incident Investigation Team.
