Washington State Parks invites public to welcome the new year with First Day Hikes

Over 40 parks under Washington State Parks are participating in First Day Hikes, a nationwide initiative led by America’s State Parks to encourage people to get outdoors and ring in the New Year.

Activities offered at the parks include ranger and staff-led hikes, dog strolls, and cross-country ski trips.

All hikes are free and a Discover Pass is not required for vehicles to access the parks on Jan. 1, which is designated as a State Parks Free Day.

Some of the events have participation limits and will require advance registration.

Anyone interested in visiting the state parks is advised to make travel plans in advance and check for any active alerts or cancellations that may be in effect due to winter weather.

The full list of First Day Hikes events and other State Parks Free Days in 2022 can be found on Washington State Parks’ website.
