UW releases latest COVID-19 model for US

SEATTLE — Researchers with the University of Washington’s Institute of Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) released their latest COVID-19 model Thursday afternoon.

Researchers said the daily reported cases in the United States increased to 79,900 per day.

Deaths jumped to 910 per day compared to 803 last week.

They said that means COVID-19 is the number two cause of death in the nation this week.

An estimated 12% of people in the U.S. have been infected with the virus as of Nov. 9, researchers said.

Researchers said that mask use in the U.S. is around 67%, but if that number increased to 95% in the next week, 68,000 lives would be saved by March 1.
