TUMWATER, Wash. — A two-alarm fire ripped through a commercial building Saturday evening in Tumwater.
The fire happened after 5:30 p.m. at a surgical laundry center located at 2757 29th Ave. SW.
A Tumwater Fire Department spokesperson said fire crews had to fight the fire defensively, which means crews did not enter the building.
Crews were able to get the fire under control but were not able to put out the flames as of 7:06 p.m., officials said.
No injuries were reported.
According to Tumwater Fire Department spokesperson Ann Cook, two employees were operating a thermal oil iron (a commercial iron to iron sheets and blankets for hospitals) and there was an oil leak, which ignited nearby combustible material.
The employees escaped and were not injured.
The fire caused an estimated $3 million in damage.
Crews are expected to be at the scene all night.
