Teen struck by bullet in South Seattle

SEATTLE — An 18-year-old woman was taken to Harborview Medical Center early Thursday after being struck by a bullet in South Seattle, police said.

Witnesses who were in a car with the victim told Seattle police they were driving in the area of Rainier Avenue South and South Genesee Street about 12:30 a.m. when they heard gunshots and a person in the car was hit, officials said.

Law enforcement officials said the victim suffered a gunshot wound to the arm.

The victim's injuries were non-life-threatening, police said.

Other witnesses told police they saw a red car leave the area just after the shooting but were unable to provide a suspect description.

The shooting is under investigation.
