Teen shot on board metro bus in gang retaliation

Chaos on board a Metro bus was captured on camera when a fight broke out and a teenager was shot.

As is the case with most buses in the King County Metro system, coach #2607 is equipped with multiple surveillance cameras that recorded the violent assault July 10, just after 11 p.m. Investigators with the King County Sheriff’s Office requested that KIRO 7 blur the faces of the 17-year old victim, bus passengers and suspects already identified.

However, detectives asked that the images of two unknown suspects, one male and one female, be shown, because they’re hoping tips from the community will uncover their identities.

According to investigators, late last Wednesday seven Burien-area gang members entered a northbound route 120 bus and sat at the back of the vehicle, where a rival 17-year-old gang member was seated.

The bus surveillance video shows one of the suspects suddenly striking the victim in the face.

Immediately, the other six suspects can also be seen, punching and kicking the victim multiple times.

During the melee, “One of the suspects shot the victim in the leg,” King County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Ryan Abbott told KIRO 7 on Wednesday.

Abbott said the bus immediately stopped and the seven suspects fled near South Dearborn Street and Southwest Thistle Street in South Seattle, but not before Abbott said one of them fired another shot from outside the bus.

In the video “you can see the victim kind of dodge” the bullet, Abbott said. “The gun shot that went through the glass just missed his head, so he’s really lucky,” added Abbott, who said the victim has been released from the hospital.

Three suspects have been identified and arrested. They are boys aged 16, 14 and 13 years old.
