Suspected shoplifters assault Rainier Beach store manager

RAINIER BEACH, Wash. — According to Seattle police, Saturday night in Rainier Beach, four men driving a black Jeep Liberty entered a Speed-E Mart and started to shoplift clothing and other items.

When the store owner confronted the men, one of them punched the owner several times in the face.

As the men continued to assault the store owner, he armed himself with a long wooden stick and he managed to get the men out of the store and into the parking lot.

A passerby noticed the robbery in progress and called 911.

The blotter continued stating that one of the men was knocked unconscious while the manager, who was bleeding from a cut under his eye, smashed out three windows of the Jeep with his stick.

Three of the men fled in the Jeep and one ran away with the stolen property.

Officers arrived with a K-9 unit and they believe they found a suspect hiding in Kubota Gardens.
