LAKEWOOD, Wash. — A 28-year-old man who was shot by Lakewood police during a traffic stop has died, authorities said.
Police said it happened around 4 p.m. in the 6400 block of Steilacoom Boulevard Southwest and Whitman Avenue Friday afternoon.
Two officers exchanged gunfire with the suspect who was taken to Tacoma hospital where he died, police said.
Authorities said a passenger was in the vehicle, but they complied with the officers.
There’s no word on what led up to the traffic stop.
The Metro Crime Response Unit will conduct an independent investigation along with the Washington State Patrol and Pierce County prosecutors.
