• Suspect dead after officer-involved shooting in Puyallup

    PUYALLUP, Wash. - A suspect was shot and killed by police on Friday night in Puyallup. 

    Officers with Puyallup and Fife responded to a report of a recklessly driven vehicle at about 4:30 p.m.

    After Puyallup officers arrived to the area near Valley Avenue and Meridian, they found an abandoned van.

    When an officer noticed no one was in the vehicle, the officer started walking towards the nearby recreation center. 

    As an officer was canvassing the area, the officer heard a single gunshot. Multiple officers responded. 

    Officers located the suspect crouched down behind a utility pole and next to a gate. Officers stopped and started negotiating with the suspect. 

    Police said as negotiations went on, at least a gunshot or more appeared to came from the  suspect's location. 

    Police said the suspect had fired multiple rounds at the officers and officers fired back. Seven officers were involved -- five Puyallup officers and two Milton officers. 

    The suspect died at the scene. 

    Police have no identified the suspect.

    No officers were injured. 

    Police said there were people inside the nearby rec center, which was placed in a shelter in place. 

    The investigation is ongoing.
