Suspect who fired shot at Snohomish County deputy in custody

LYNNWOOD, Wash. — A suspect who fired a shot at a Snohomish County deputy in Lynnwood Wednesday afternoon was taken into custody, officials said.

The incident happened in the area of 148th and Highway 99.

Investigators said a deputy responded to a report of a stolen car in the area.

As the deputy approached the person in the car, the suspect fired a shot at the deputy and the deputy returned fire, the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release. The man then drove away from the scene. He is described as a white man wearing a red sweatshirt. The deputy was not injured and the suspect’s injuries are not known, deputies said. The investigation remains ongoing.

On Friday, investigators identified the suspect as 30-year-old Collin Irons, who was recently released from prison and has an extensive and violent criminal history.

Irons was taken into custody by the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office Violent Offender Taskforce on Friday night.
