TACOMA, Wash. — A suspect has been arrested in a shooting that left a man dead at a Tacoma homeless encampment in late September, police said.
Tacoma police said a 21-year-old man was taken into custody Wednesday afternoon, but his identity was not released.
On Sept. 25, at 1:29 a.m., officers were called to East 38th Street near East McKinley Avenue and found a 31-year-old man dead. That man was identified by the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office as Diego Escalante.
That fatal shooting caused some nearby residents to fear for their safety.
As for the suspect, he has been booked into the Pierce County Jail for first-degree murder.
The homicide remains under investigation.
