The Summit at Snoqualmie opens after weekend snow

SNOQUALMIE PASS, Wash. — After weeks without enough powder to play in, The Summit at Snoqualmie West opens exclusively to IKON and season pass holders Tuesday and Wednesday before opening to the public on Thursday.

It’s still early in the season, but experienced skiers say conditions in the mountains are excellent.

“This weekend, we came out and I noticed the snow is really heavy — and there was snow falling on top of it — so you end up with this upside-down snowpack,” said Matt Pawelski, a skier from North Bend.

Bruce Querbach came all the way from Bellingham to experience the resort.

“We’re excited to have the ski resorts actually open,” said Querbach.

Last year, many ski areas were running lifts at reduced capacity or required reservations for skiers and riders because of COVID-19 restrictions.

Indoor dining has returned to the Summit, but to get inside and eat you’ll have to provide proof of vaccination and masks are required.

Many ski areas didn’t announce or had to push back their opening dates after record-setting warm temperatures and rainfall.

But after heavy snow hit the mountains on Friday night and into the weekend, several other ski areas are also opening in the coming days, including Mount Baker, which also opens to passholders Tuesday.
