Student stabbed outside Federal Way High School

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. — A student was stabbed by another student outside Federal Way High School late Tuesday morning.

Federal Way police say it happened in front of the school at 11 a.m.

Federal Way police said a school resource officer was near the scene when the stabbing occurred and called for backup.

Police say the suspect, also a student, was detained almost immediately as he attempted to flee.

The victim was taken to Harborview Medical Center with a stab wound to the abdomen.

Their injuries are non-life-threatening.

The Federal Way School District released the following statement about the incident:

While we understand incidents such as these are upsetting, today's incident highlights the plans we have in place to respond to an unlikely incident. Our partnership with the Federal Way Police Department allowed a rapid response when responding to the incident today.


Federal Way Public Schools has a Zero Tolerance Policy regarding all weapons and weapon "look-alikes."  They are absolutely not allowed on our school campuses and any student in possession of a weapon will be immediately expelled.


Our highest priority is the safety and security of our students and staff. This is why schools immediately respond to all reported threats to safety. Ultimately, the security of our schools depends on all of us -students, parents, teachers, and community members- working together.

We ask our parents and community to continue to talk with students about keeping our schools safe, the danger of weapons in school, and the importance of sharing any information with adults.

As a district, we are we are committed to providing all of our students with a learning environment that is safe and free from fear.
