Man fired shots at deputies in standoff, authorities say

SOUTH HILL, Wash. — Deputies were called to a home in South Hill on Friday evening for reports of shots fired and were met with gunfire, according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department.

When deputies arrived at a home in the 11500 block of 85th Avenue Court East, they said a man shot at them.

No one was hit.

SWAT negotiators called to the scene talked with the man holed up inside the home, attempting to get him to surrender. At around 7:22 p.m., deputies tweeted that “negotiators were successful in getting the suspect to peacefully surrender.”

The man’s 11-year-old son was inside the home during the standoff but is now safe with family.

The man was booked into the Pierce County Jail for first-degree assault.
