The Seattle Police Department in conjunction with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency is hosting a drug take back day Saturday, giving people an opportunity to safely and anonymously dispose of prescription drugs.
The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the five police precincts, allowing the public to safely dispose of expired, unused or unwanted prescription drugs to both prevent drug abuse and rid homes of unnecessary prescriptions.
At the event last fall, people turned in more than 900,000 pounds of prescription drugs nationwide. The turn-in program aids in the safe disposal of prescriptions, educating against flushing drugs down the toilet or throwing them in the trash, which both pose safety and health hazards.
