Snohomish County Boys & Girls Clubs offering free childcare to first responders, healthcare workers

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Snohomish County is showing its appreciation to those on the frontlines of the pandemic by offering free childcare to first responders and healthcare workers.

“We have 29,000 members across Snohomish County and when we were all hit unexpectedly with this crisis, we want to do something and it’s hard to know what can we do,” Chief Operating Officer Marci Volmer explained.

What the nonprofit knows, and knows well after operating in the area for 75 years, is childcare. Volmer said her organization wanted to make sure the people who have to work taking care of others are also taken care of.

“What we have come up with is offering free childcare for first responders and healthcare workers,” she said.

No strings attached. It’s absolutely free to help alleviate some of the stress for those on the front lines of the pandemic.

“They're doing the work to keep all of us safe, and it’s just the little bit we can do to help with that,” Volmer added.

Volmer said so far the response has been good, and there is room for more.

“We’re seeing new people, we're seeing existing families that we already have known bringing their kids in. But we’re also seeing people come in that we haven't seen before,” she said.

For other families whose parents have to work in other essential jobs, The Boys & Girls Clubs of Snohomish County is also offering all day childcare at a discounted rate of $125 a week.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Snohomish County has 16 locations throughout Snohomish County and in Oak Harbor, Coupeville and Kingston.
